WhatsApp Plus: New features exclusive to the subscription
Meta is making a big push into subscriptions for its major social networks, including a new WhatsApp Plus plan rolling out today (via TechCrunch).
We’ve previously seen evidence of WhatsApp Plus surfacing during the WhatsApp beta, but it was limited to a small number of users. Now, WhatsApp Plus is launching globally as an optional subscription, and users should start seeing it appear in the app soon.
Pricing
- $2.99/month in the US.
What you get
- Send premium stickers
- Change your app’s theme
- Choose a custom app icon
- Pin extra chats
- Get premium ringtones
- Upgrade your chat lists
In other words, WhatsApp Plus doesn’t change anything about the core WhatsApp experience. Anyone who isn’t interested in subscribing shouldn’t notice any changes to what they currently get from WhatsApp.
Who might want it?
If you’re a heavy WhatsApp user and want access to additional features and customization tools, WhatsApp Plus is designed for you. Otherwise, the standard app remains unchanged.
Alongside WhatsApp Plus, Meta is also launching separate subscriptions for Instagram and Facebook.
