Announcement
The Pokémon leakers were right: the Gen 10 games are called Pokémon Wind and Pokémon Waves. The Pokémon Company confirmed the titles during a 30th‑anniversary stream on Pokémon Day. The games are set to hit Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027. (A Game Freak leak last October suggested Wind and Waves would be out this year with DLC to follow in 2027.)
According to the official Pokémon account on X, in Wind and Waves you’ll “travel across beautiful windswept islands and a vast ocean with glittering waves that ebb and flow. You’ll also team up with Pokémon to overcome challenges and even the forces of nature!” The games will be playable in 11 languages, including Brazilian Portuguese.
New Starter Pokémon
Introducing the first partner Pokémon from #PokemonWindsWaves:
- Browt 🌱 – Grass type
- Pombon 🔥 – Fire type
- Gecqua 💧 – Water type
“Say hello to Browt 🌱, Pombon 🔥, and Gecqua 💧. Who will you partner with on this adventure, Trainers?” – Pokémon on X, 27 Feb 2026
A trailer for the two games revealed the three new starter Pokémon. Their colors and environments indicate their respective types. Other Pokémon featured in the trailer include Pikachu (sporting beachwear) and Oddish. The trailer also showcases a new region and ends with a view of the ocean teeming with water‑type Pokémon.
Other Franchise Updates
During the Pokémon Presents stream on Friday, several other announcements were made:
- Pokémon Champions – a battle‑focused title inspired by Pokémon Stadium, debuting on Nintendo Switch in April, with later releases on iOS and Android. Cross‑play will be supported across the three platforms.
- Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness – confirmed for the GameCube library on Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack on Switch 2 in March.
Legacy Remakes & Spin‑off
Pokémon Day also marked the 30th anniversary of the series, which began with the 1996 release of Pocket Monsters Red and Pocket Monsters Green (later Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue in the West) on Game Boy in Japan. Those titles were remade for Game Boy Advance in 2004 as Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen. Starting today, both remakes are available on Switch and Switch 2 for $20 each.
A new cozy life‑simulation spin‑off, Pokémon Pokopia, is slated for release on Switch 2 on 5 March.
