Overview
A new set of main series Pokémon games is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027, marking the 10th installment in the series.
In a livestream celebrating the release of the first Pokémon games exactly 30 years ago, the company unveiled Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves, open‑world titles set across a vast ocean of islands.
New starter Pokémon
- Browt – Grass‑type “bean chick” that resembles an Angry Bird.
- Pombon – Fire‑type inspired by a Pomeranian; better not evolve into a bipedal man (source).
- Gecqua – Water‑type gecko with big pink eyes.

Region inspiration
Leakers have rumored that the new games are set in a region inspired by Indonesia and Southeast Asia. While the trailer doesn’t explicitly confirm this, it showcases lush jungles, seaside mountains, tropical towns, and underwater reefs that align with those rumors.
Fans have also highlighted a suspicious‑looking cloud in the trailer that resembles a Gyarados‑slash‑Lapras hybrid flying through the sky, possibly hinting at a new legendary Pokémon (Polygon analysis).
Release timeline
Main series Pokémon games typically launch in November. If this pattern holds, the next two years will pass before players can explore the new region. The last main‑series release, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet (2022), faced criticism for feeling rushed and containing glitches, so a later release date could mean a more polished experience.
Availability of older titles
Fans can currently purchase reissues of Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen for the Switch, priced at $20. (Note: there is no officially sanctioned, free method to play these games on mobile devices.)
