Google Meet finally gets a shared media feature it should’ve had a long time ago
Source: Android Authority

TL;DR
- Google Meet is adding an “Open in new window” option.
- The option lets you undock shared‑screen content into a separate window.
- The secondary window can be moved, resized, and redocked independently.
Google recently confirmed that the Meet Android and iOS apps will receive speech translation in the coming months. While that rolls out, a new desktop feature is set to appear within the next couple of weeks.
Open in New Window Feature
Google announced that Meet will include an “Open in new window” option for shared content. This is aimed at users who want to screen‑share without the shared media occupying the entire meeting view.

How it works
- While presenting, click “Open in new window.”
- The shared media is undocked and displayed in a standalone secondary window.
- You can move, resize, or redock the window at any time, allowing you to keep an eye on meeting participants while still presenting.
Availability
- The feature will be available to Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts.
- Rollout begins on February 23, 2026.
