New Compact Nugget Ice Makers
GE Profile has announced two new versions of its popular Opal nugget ice machines with smaller footprints that take up less counter space and come with more affordable price tags. Like the larger and pricier Opal 2.0 Ultra, the new machines produce nugget (chewable or pellet) ice by freezing layers of ice flakes, creating nuggets that are easier to chew and have more surface area to cool drinks faster.
Background
- The nugget‑ice concept was previously limited to restaurants.
- GE Profile launched its first home‑use Opal machine in 2015.
- Recent models, such as the Opal 2.0 Ultra, start at a steep $579, making the new compact versions a more budget‑friendly option.
