Apple has previously teased that it wants to make a sequel to F1: The Movie, and today the film’s producer officially confirmed that one is in the works.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirms F1 sequel is in the works

Christal Hayes writes at BBC:

A sequel to the Brad Pitt blockbuster F1 is officially in the works, the film’s producer Jerry Bruckheimer has told the BBC.
Speaking to the BBC at the annual Academy Awards luncheon in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Bruckheimer said: “We’re working on a sequel.”

The producer declined to give a timeline for the project or confirm casting details, including whether Pitt would reprise his role. However, Bruckheimer added that he would “of course” be involved in casting decisions.

It’s no surprise, considering F1: The Movie was not only Apple’s biggest theatrical hit to date, but also now the most successful sports movie ever at the box office.

The official confirmation of a sequel also aligns with Apple’s broader investment in Formula 1. Starting next month, F1 races will begin streaming on Apple TV in the US.

Last week Apple unveiled a wide array of new movies it plans to release this year, but none of them were theatrical films; every title will instead go straight to Apple TV. Despite the success of F1 last summer, Apple still appears selective about which titles receive a major theatrical push.

Apple TV is available for $12.99 per month, or you can get it discounted through the Apple One bundle.
