당근은 월간 활성 이용자(MAU) 2,100만 명 규모의 플랫폼을 기반으로 이웃 간 자원순환 문화를 확산시켜 온 점을 높게 평가받았다. 특히 지역 주민들이 가까운 이웃과 물품을 거래하고 나누는 과정에서 자연스럽게 재사용 문화를 형성하도록 지원하며 지속가능한 소비 생태계 조성에 기여해 왔다. 또한 단순한 중고거래 서비스를 넘어 지역사회 연결과 나눔 문화 확산을 통해 환경보전의 가치를 생활 속에서 실천할 수 있도록 한 점도 긍정적인 평가를 받았다.

지난해 당근을 통해 이뤄진 중고거래 연결 건수는 1억9천만 건에 달한다. 의류·가구·유아용품·생활가전 등 다양한 생활용품이 재사용되면서 제품 수명을 연장하고 폐기물을 줄이는 데 기여했다.

사용하지 않는 물건을 버리는 대신 필요한 이웃에게 전달하는 거래가 활성화되면서 신규 제품 생산에 따른 자원 소비와 탄소 배출을 줄이는 효과도 거둔 것으로 평가된다. 이는 순환경제 실현과 지속가능한 소비문화 확산 측면에서도 의미 있는 성과다.
