YouTube announced that it is introducing automatic AI detection, applying an AI label to videos that contain “significant photorealistic AI use.”

General YouTube Feature Redux

Automatic AI Labeling

  • Creators must still manually disclose when realistic AI is used, even with the new automatic labeling system.
  • If a creator believes their content was incorrectly identified as AI‑generated, they can update the disclosure status in YouTube Studio.
  • Disclosures are permanent for content created with YouTube’s AI tools (e.g., Veo, Dream Screen) or for videos that contain C2PA metadata indicating fully generative AI.

The label appears:

  • Long‑form videos: just below the video player and above the description.
  • Shorts: as an overlay on the video.

The labeling applies to content that is photorealistic and could potentially fool viewers, rather than unrealistic or stylized AI content.

Disclosures for “unrealistic, animated, or slightly altered” AI content will remain in the expanded description of the video.

Customizable Content Feed

YouTube has added a new customizable content feed that lets users shape their recommendations based on interests, moods, or preferred topics.

  • Users type a custom prompt describing what they want to see, and a personalized feed is generated.
  • The feature has been in testing since November and is now rolling out to signed‑in viewers in the U.S. on both the mobile app and desktop.
  • YouTube search and watch history must be enabled for the feed to work.
