Overview

Nikita Bier, X’s head of product, announced the launch of custom timelines, allowing users to curate their feed based on topics of interest. He described the update as “one of the biggest changes to X” and a “huge undertaking” that took the team many months to develop.

Features

  • Pin specific topics to your home tab and switch between them to see the latest discussions about your interests and hobbies.
  • Powered by Grok’s understanding of every post combined with the algorithm’s personalization.
  • 75 topics to choose from, including food, art, photography, business, finance, movies, and TV.
  • Personalization works best for topics you already engage with regularly.
  • Snooze tool for the For You tab: hide selected topics (e.g., politics or sports) for 24 hours.

Availability

  • Currently in early access and limited to Premium subscribers on iOS.
  • Rolling out to Premium users on Android “very soon.”
  • The snooze tool is available for Premium users on iOS and the web.

Comparison with Other Platforms

X’s custom timelines are similar to the custom feeds offered by Bluesky and Threads, which also let users pin topic‑based timelines to their home screens. Those features have been available to users since 2023 (Bluesky) and 2024 (Threads).
