Overview
Apple will launch its newest MacBook Pro next week with M5, and there’s another distinct model coming later this year with M6. Here’s what to expect from Apple’s two unique MacBook Pro launches this year.
Next week: MacBook Pro with familiar design, but more powerful M5 Pro and M5 Max chips

Apple CEO Tim Cook says new products will launch next week. Among those debuts will be new 14‑inch and 16‑inch MacBook Pros with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.
From the outside, these new MacBook Pros will look identical to the M5 MacBook Pro that launched in October—same design, same ports, same overall feel. Inside, the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips will make them more powerful than ever.
If you’re in the market for a high‑end laptop, the new MacBook Pro will offer a lot to love. But if you can hold out a while, you might be better off waiting for the M6 model later this year.
Later this year: M6 MacBook Pro with brand new design, OLED touchscreen, more

It’s not often that Apple products get two hardware revisions in the same year, but that’s what’s expected for the MacBook Pro. The M6 model is rumored to feature:
- New hardware design that’s thinner and lighter
- OLED display with Dynamic Island instead of a notch
- Touchscreen support
- Bigger‑than‑usual gains with the M6 chip
- Possibly a C2 modem for cellular connectivity
The last time Apple made the MacBook Pro thinner and lighter, it was a disaster that took far too long to correct, largely due to the faulty Butterfly keyboard and reduced ports. No details are available yet on how Apple plans to overhaul the industrial design, but the gains in thinness and lightness likely won’t require the same compromises.
Two new MacBook Pro models: wrap‑up
If you’re content with the current MacBook Pro design and want the most powerful laptop Apple sells, next week’s M5 Pro and M5 Max models shouldn’t disappoint.
If you’re willing to wait and the idea of a hardware revamp sounds appealing, waiting for the M6 MacBook Pro this fall could be the right move.
