New Features on Google TV
The Google TV platform is receiving a software update that adds a range of new capabilities. The most notable change is the integration of YouTube Shorts, which will appear as a personalized row on the home page.
“Starting with YouTube Shorts.” – Announcement from Google
This move continues the trend of short‑form vertical video expanding from phones to larger screens. Disney+ has also introduced its own vertical video section, and Google’s wording suggests that other platforms such as TikTok or Instagram Reels could be added in the future.
Generative AI Additions
Nano Banana Image Generator
Google’s AI image generator Nano Banana is now available on Google TV. It lets users add humorous twists to any photo, effectively “making the room laugh.”
Veo Video‑Generation Tool
The platform now includes Veo, a tool that creates videos from textual prompts. Google provides an example where a user requests a video of their grandfather dancing in space.
Gemini Integration in Photos
Google Gemini has been integrated into the Photos app, enabling prompt‑based queries. The app also receives the AI editing suite Google Photos Remix, which offers advanced photo‑editing capabilities.
Availability
- YouTube Shorts integration is scheduled for release this summer.
- All other features—Nano Banana, Veo, Gemini in Photos, and Photos Remix—are already available on the update.
- Most of these tools require Gemini‑enabled devices.
