Last month, Google delivered our very first real taste of Android 17, with the release of Beta 1. Development is moving forward at a solid pace, and in the weeks since we’ve already gotten our hands on Android 17 Beta 2. Before Beta 2 landed, we reached out to Android testers on the bleeding edge to get their first impressions: What do you already like best about Android 17 Beta 1?

Top‑voted change

A whole lot of Pixel users were interested in Google’s beta, and we heard back from over 2,500 testers. With just under half of the votes, the ability to finally remove At a Glance from the Pixel home screen emerged as the clear winner, receiving more than double the support of the runner‑up, Search bar customization.

Other notable feedback

  • Vibration cue for connected calls – Reader rythemarora080 highlighted the new vibration when a phone call connects, a handy tweak for friends who take forever to pick up.
  • Future app‑locking feature – Some testers are already looking ahead to the upcoming ability to selectively lock apps, even though it isn’t visible in Beta 1 yet.
  • Launcher‑centric changes – A number of comments noted that many of the requested improvements feel more like launcher tweaks than deeper system changes.
