Spotify’s newest feature makes playlists sound better

Smart Reorder Overview

Spotify is giving Premium subscribers the ability to intelligently reorder songs in a playlist based on two factors that improve flow between tracks: beats per minute (BPM) and key. By tapping into these musical elements, Smart Reorder keeps songs with similar speed and tonal characteristics together, resulting in smoother transitions.
How to Use Smart Reorder
- Open a playlist and tap Mix.
- Select Edit to find the Smart Reorder option.
Once activated, tracks are automatically reordered according to BPM and key, so your transitions sound better.

Spotify explains the process in its official announcement.
Context and Comparison
The feature builds on Spotify’s earlier ability to add and adjust transition points in tracks, introduced last fall (source).
Apple Music also upgraded song transitions with AutoMix as part of iOS 26, offering seamless mixing without manual input (Apple Music announcement, details on AutoMix).
