TL;DR

  • Spotify is testing a new, minimalist “Now Playing” screen for Wear OS, spotted on a Galaxy Watch 7 running One UI 8 Watch.
  • The UI showcases prominent album art without traditional controls; taps and double‑taps are used to play/pause or skip tracks.
  • The experience appears to be part of limited server‑side testing and isn’t yet available to all users.

Spotify has been adding new features such as Page Match and About the Song to improve music and audiobook experiences. The latest addition is a revamped “Now Playing” screen for Wear OS smartwatches.

Discovery

Using Spotify v9.1.20.1442 on a phone, Telegram user @Fitzingout observed the new screen on a Galaxy Watch 7 with One UI 8 Watch. The layout centers the song’s cover art and details, omitting the usual playback controls.

Interaction

  • Tap anywhere on the screen to pause or resume playback.
  • Double‑tap right to skip to the next track.
  • Double‑tap left to return to the previous track.

The new screen coexists with the traditional “Now Playing” view, which still provides the familiar music controls and can be accessed by swiping up on the cover‑art screen.

Availability

The feature seems to be limited to server‑side testing; attempts to trigger it on other Wear OS devices were unsuccessful. Further details from Spotify are awaited, and a broader rollout may follow.
