Play has no limits — except if you’re trying to buy a console. Amidst the challenges facing the tech industry, Sony has introduced a leasing option for the PlayStation 5 through a partnership with Raylo in the United Kingdom, branded as Flex.
How the Flex program works
- The lease is offered directly via Sony’s online store, ensuring all hardware is authentic and official.
- Raylo’s leasing partnership is limited to PlayStation UK.
- At the end of the contract, the console must be returned or you can upgrade for free.
Pricing and lease terms
The program offers four lease options:
| Lease length | Monthly price (GBP) | Monthly price (USD) | Device |
|---|---|---|---|
| 12 months | £19.50 | $26.56 | PS5 Slim |
| 24 months | — (varies) | — | — |
| 36 months | £9.95 | $13.55 | PS5 Slim |
| Rolling plan | £19.50 (flexible) | $26.56 | PS5 Slim |
| — | £37.49 (2 TB PS5 Pro) | $51.06 | PS5 Pro |
Other devices can also be leased, including:
- PS5 Pro – £37.49 per month for the 2 TB model.
- PSVR2 and PlayStation Portal – pricing varies.
- DualSense Edge controller – as low as £6.50 ($8.85) per month for a 36‑month lease.
Comparison with other console leasing options
- Microsoft offers “Xbox All Access,” which allows you to keep the console after completing the payments.
- Sony’s Flex program is a pure rental: you do not own the hardware at the end of the lease, though buyout discussions are possible.
Cost example
Renting a PS5 Slim for 36 months at £9.95 per month totals £358.20 (≈ $487.89). This is comparable to the console’s typical upfront price, making short‑term rentals a viable option for users who want the console for a limited period (e.g., to play a new exclusive title).
Upgrade path
Raylo notes that after a lease ends you can:
- Return the console.
- Upgrade to a newer model (e.g., a future PS6).
- Continue paying under a rolling plan if you wish to keep the device.
