OpenAI has a new $100 ChatGPT Pro plan to better match up with Claude

Overview
OpenAI has introduced a new $100 per month Pro plan that sits between the existing $20 per month Plus plan and the $200 per month Pro plan. The new tier offers five times more Codex usage than the $20 option and appears aimed at competing with Anthropic’s $100 per month Claude offering. An OpenAI spokesperson told TechCrunch that “Compared with Claude Code, Codex delivers more coding capacity per dollar across paid tiers.”
Differences Between the Pro Plans
$100 Pro plan
- Provides the same advanced tools and models as the $200 plan.
- Offers double the Codex for a limited time, or ten times what the Plus plan provides.
$200 Pro plan
- Supplies four times the Codex compared with the $100 tier.
Both plans include the same suite of advanced features; the primary distinction is the amount of Codex allocated.
User Reaction
Members of OpenAI’s developer community have long requested a mid‑tier option. OpenAI noted on X:
“The Plus plan will continue to be the best offer at $20 for steady, day‑to‑day usage of Codex, and the new $100 Pro tier offers a more accessible upgrade path for heavier daily use.”
Recent Model Updates
- GPT 5.2 launched late last year.
- GPT‑5.3‑Codex released in February, boosting speed and reasoning capabilities of Codex.
These upgrades give developers a tougher choice between ChatGPT and Claude Opus, especially given the previous price gap of $200 per month for the top‑tier ChatGPT plan.
