TL;DR

  • A working PC port of The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap is now available.
  • The port requires the original game ROM.
  • It joins a growing list of unofficial console‑to‑PC ports released in recent months.

Overview

The Game Boy Advance title The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap has been ported to PC by developer 999sian. The project, called TMC, is hosted on GitHub. The port is unofficial and requires you to supply a copy of the game ROM (US version renamed baserom.gba).

Installation

  1. Download the latest release from the GitHub repository and extract the ZIP (which contains a TAR file).
  2. Extract the TAR file as well.
  3. Place the Minish Cap ROM in the same folder as the asset_extractor and tmc_pc executables.
  4. Rename the ROM to baserom.gba (US version).
  5. Run tmc_pc. The application will extract the necessary data (typically 30 seconds to a few minutes) and then launch the game automatically.
  6. Subsequent launches skip the extraction step.

Controls & Settings

  • Keyboard: Default controls work out of the box.
  • Gamepad: Xbox One controller (and most other controllers) are supported without additional configuration.
  • Press the L button (mapped to the A key on the keyboard) to open the settings menu, where you can:
    • Adjust window scaling up to 10×.
    • Choose between filter modes: nearest, smooth, sharp, linear.
    • Select various frame‑rate options.
    • Toggle full‑screen mode.

Limitations & Expectations

This is an initial release, so advanced features such as:

  • Enhanced graphics or HD textures
  • Mod support
  • Native widescreen rendering

are not present. The port aims to faithfully reproduce the original experience while offering modern convenience features. Future updates may add more options.

Recent Unofficial Console‑to‑PC Ports (2026)

  • Quest 64
  • Banjo‑Kazooie
  • Jak 3

These projects typically deliver better performance than traditional emulation and often include widescreen output and higher resolutions.

Other Unofficial Zelda Ports

  • Ocarina of Time
  • Majora’s Mask
  • A Link to the Past

The Minish Cap port adds to the growing library of Zelda titles available on PC.
