Overview

Apple is expected to update the MacBook Air with an OLED display for its 2028 model, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman predicts that the MacBook Air’s transition from LCD to OLED will occur with the 2028 update, as part of a broader migration to OLED across Apple’s flagship iPad and MacBook lines—including the iPad mini, MacBook Pro, iPad Air, and finally the MacBook Air.

Apple analyst Ming‑Chi Kuo has reported that Apple has already begun early work on an OLED MacBook Air.

Advantages of OLED

When the MacBook Air moves from LCD to OLED display technology, it will gain several benefits:

  • Brighter screens
  • Deeper blacks with higher contrast
  • Improved power efficiency, potentially extending battery life
