TL;DR

  • Google is rearranging your incoming call options on Wear OS.
  • The “answer” and “reject” buttons are moving to straddle your contact’s photo.
  • The change may coincide with the arrival of Calling Cards support.

What’s changing

Muscle memory is a tricky thing. Getting into a routine of repeating the same motion, over and over, can definitely make some tasks a lot easier. But there’s a flip side to that, especially when we’re dealing with the evolution of software interfaces, and one little change can be all it takes to render that stored knowledge useless, forcing us to relearn habits.

That’s just what some Pixel Watch users may be facing, and we wanted to let you know about a rearrangement going on with the UI for receiving calls.

It seems that Google’s been taking its sweet time with pushing that update out to everyone’s Pixel Watch, though, as we’re only now just starting to see it on some of our devices. As it lands, Google has shuffled the controls for answering or rejecting a call:

  • The “pick up” button, previously at the bottom of the watch’s screen, is now on the side, straddling the contact’s photo alongside the “reject” button.
  • The overflow button that offered the option to respond with a text has moved to a new position at the bottom of the screen.

That’s not a huge change—just a matter of sliding your finger an extra centimeter. However, if you’re in the habit of screening many calls on your watch, it may take a little getting used to. Keep an eye out for the new UI, as it’s on its way.
