Overview

If you’re an iPhone user who likes to keep tabs on where your stuff is, you can’t go far wrong with an AirTag. The second‑gen model that Apple just released outpaces the original in every way (aside from the galling lack of a keyring hole). While it’s easy enough to replace the battery in both versions of the AirTag, you might not want to worry about the device’s battery life for a very long time.

Enter Elevation Lab’s extended battery case for the AirTag, which is currently on sale on Amazon for $16.

Pricing

  • Regular price: $23
  • Sale price: $16 (≈ 30 % discount)

The deal isn’t new, but it remains a decent one.

Use Cases

The case is most useful for situations where the AirTag will sit inside a suitcase, backpack, or other item that isn’t handled frequently. It isn’t ideal for wallets or keyrings because:

  • It’s bulkier than a standard AirTag case.
  • It lacks a keyring hole.

Battery Life Extension

Elevation Lab states that inserting a pair of AA batteries (they recommend Energizer Ultimate Lithium cells) can extend the tracker’s battery life to up to 10 years. For reference, a standard AirTag runs for a little over a year on its CR2032 button cell.

Protection & Design

  • The case is sealed with four screws and carries an IP69 waterproof rating.
  • Its appearance doesn’t immediately suggest that it houses an AirTag, which may make it less obvious to a thief that the item is being tracked.

Downsides

  • Because the AirTag is locked inside the case, the sound it emits is muffled. Elevation Lab estimates the volume will be about two‑thirds of a case‑free AirTag.
  • The second‑gen AirTag is louder than the original, which helps mitigate the reduced volume.
