Google’s Play Store Q&A chat tool is getting smarter — here’s what’s new
Source: Android Authority

TL;DR
- Last year, Google announced Ask Play for the Play Store, a Gemini‑powered tool to answer your questions about apps.
- In December, Google shared that a new, “improved chat interface” was coming to Ask Play.
- We’re now getting our first look at those changes, although availability still seems quite limited.
Background
One of Google’s major AI goals is to change how we get answers. Instead of Search pointing us toward third‑party resources, AI aims to handle questions directly while keeping us within the Google ecosystem.
Last year, Google introduced a feature to the Play Store called Ask Play about this app. At that time, the tool appeared only in select app listings, allowing users to ask about app features or usage.
Recent Updates
In December, Google updated its Play Store release notes:
With the new Ask Play experience, you’ll get an improved chat interface that lets you talk to the Play Store like a personal assistant.
Until now, no major visual changes had been observed. However, a Telegram user (@until_the_morning_light) reported seeing the new experience in version 50.0.23‑31 of the Play Store for Android.
New Chat Interface in the Search Bar
- Ask Play now responds to questions directly from the Play Store’s search bar.
- Results appear on the search screen and can be expanded for more detail.
- At the bottom of the response, Google offers additional prompts to continue the interaction, or you can ask a new question.
Changes in App Listings
- The Ask Play card is now larger and slides up from the bottom of the screen.
- Contextual awareness has improved, though occasional Gemini missteps still occur.
- The expanded card provides richer information and a more conversational experience.
Outlook
The rollout appears limited at the moment. We’ll keep an eye on broader availability and update when more users can access the new Ask Play experience.
