Google Maps ‘limited view’ now hides reviews, images for signed-out users
Source: 9to5Google
Google Maps is more than just a navigation app; it contains a treasure trove of data about locations worldwide. Recently, Google Maps appears to be changing how it functions for users who are signed out, including hiding reviews and images.
A “limited view” mode now kicks in if you’re not signed into a Google account. Users on Reddit have reported seeing this view when not signed in, and Google’s pop‑up explains that you might see it when Maps is “experiencing issues,” when “unusual traffic” is detected on your network, or when browser extensions interfere. The message adds that “Signing in to Google Maps might help you avoid seeing this limited experience again.”

Differences between signed‑in and signed‑out views
General map content
- Signed‑in: Shows nearby hotels, rentals, user photos, and detailed facts about the area.
- Signed‑out: Shows almost none of this and removes many nearby businesses and attractions from the map.

Business listings (e.g., restaurants)
The signed‑out listing still shows basic details such as address, hours, and phone number, but it omits a lot of information available to signed‑in users, including:
- Dine‑in / Takeout / Delivery status
- User reviews
- Popular times
- User photos & videos
- Menus
- Related locations

The lack of reviews is perhaps the most impactful loss, as Google Maps has built a huge repository of user reviews that are incredibly valuable for local businesses and travelers.
Google hasn’t publicly commented on the change, but updates will be added if more information becomes available.
