Google has confirmed that Google I/O 2026 will take place on May 19 and 20. As usual, the company will stream keynotes and sessions for free, including the opening keynote where most major announcements are made. While I/O is primarily a developer conference, it’s often where we first hear about significant Android updates that affect tens of millions of users. Expect plenty of news about Google’s AI initiatives, especially the next steps for Gemini.

I/O Puzzle Games
For several years now, Google has revealed the conference dates after participants solve a puzzle on the I/O website. This year’s puzzle features multiple “builds,” each powered by Gemini:
- Mini‑golf – A virtual caddy, driven by Gemini, offers deliberately bland advice.
- Nonogram – Similar to Picross, players use logic to place tiles and reveal an image; Gemini generates endless boards.
- Word Wheel – Leverages Gemini 3 to automate level design.
- Super Sonicbot – Uses Gemini to add microphone mechanics where ambient noise controls the Android Bot’s altitude.
- Stretchy Cat – Gemini 3 acts as a stage designer, balancing mechanics and difficulty for endless play.
