TL;DR

  • Earlier this week, users on iOS started reporting a new look to the animations surrounding the Gemini bar.
  • While we didn’t see it on Android at the time, users are now spotting a similar look on their phones.
  • The animation adds a flowing, halftone‑like dot pattern to Gemini’s glowing colors.

New animation rolls out from iOS to Android

With Google Gemini now available in many places, it isn’t surprising that updates don’t always appear everywhere simultaneously. Android users often get first access to Google’s mobile changes, but this time iPhone users were the first to see the next evolution of Gemini’s UI (see details).

We’ve been tracking Google’s effort to bring a refreshed look to Gemini’s UI (animation background redesign). A few days ago, iPhone users began sharing recordings of the new animations—a textured‑dot, halftone appearance overlaying Gemini’s glowing colors. At that point, Android devices hadn’t shown the effect.

Now the gap is closing. A Telegram user, UHSIC, shared a screen recording that demonstrates the animation on Android. Access still appears limited; we haven’t observed it on all devices, and it’s unclear whether other iOS UI tweaks—such as the new plus‑menu design (see rollout details)—are also arriving on Android.

Have you seen it yet?

If Gemini on your Android phone already sports this new look, let us know in the comments. Is the updated glow‑up a clear win, or does it fall short of expectations?
