New AI Features for Profile Pictures
Meta announced AI tools that can animate a profile picture, adding motion to a still image. Available preset animations include confetti, headphones, wave, and heart, with more to be added throughout the year. Custom animations are not currently supported.
AI‑Powered Story and Memory Editing
Text‑based AI prompts can be used to create or modify images for Facebook Stories and Memories. After uploading a photo to Stories or selecting a memory to share, the Meta AI‑powered Restyle option lets you describe the changes you want. Meta also provides presets with different style options, moods, lighting, colors, and backdrops.
Animated Backdrops for Feed Posts
When creating a text post on Facebook, tapping the rainbow‑colored “A” icon reveals multiple still and animated backgrounds. These animated backdrops are intended to make posts “more fun and expressive.” Meta plans to introduce seasonal backgrounds in the future to keep posts feeling timely, festive, and engaging.
Privacy and Usage
The AI features are used for ad targeting and personalization, with no opt‑out option currently available. Meta AI also powers several image editing and generation features across Facebook and Instagram, and it has been adopted for search across Meta apps.
