Update (February 11 2026, 02:20 PM ET):
Google had planned to release Android 17 Beta 1 today, but the rollout has been delayed. The company now says the beta is “coming soon.” We’ll update this post as new information becomes available.

Original article (February 11 2026, 01:00 PM ET):
After a year without Developer Previews, Google is finally releasing Android 17 Beta 1. This is the first step toward the upcoming Android 17 platform update (aside from the Canary channel). Below is the timeline for the stable Android 17 release.

When is the stable Android 17 release date?

Google launched the first Android 17 Beta on February 11 2026 and confirmed a second beta for March 2026. The second beta will reach the Platform Stability milestone, providing final SDK/NDK APIs and largely final app‑facing behaviors so developers can thoroughly test their apps ahead of the stable release.

Android 17 release cycle – timeline

Google has not announced an exact date for the stable release, but it is tagged 26Q2, indicating a launch sometime between April and June 2026.

Android 16 debuted on June 10 2025, reflecting Google’s shift from the historic Q3/Q4 schedule to an earlier timeline. This change helps align Android releases with device launch cycles across the ecosystem, allowing more devices to receive the major update sooner.

Android 17 release milestones

  • February 11 2026: Beta 1
  • March 2026 (planned): Beta 2 – Platform Stability milestone

Will there be other Android 17 releases?

Android 17 release cycle – future updates

The main stable release (26Q2) will serve as the base for OEM skins. Google will continue updating the platform, with expected releases for Pixel devices:

  • Android 17 QPR1 (26Q3)
  • Android 17 QPR2 (26Q4)
  • Android 17 QPR3 (27Q1)

Google has confirmed that the 26Q2 release will be the only update introducing app‑breaking behavior changes. A minor SDK update with additional APIs and features is also planned for Q4 2026.

Which phones will receive Android 17 first?

You can download and install Android 17 Beta 1 on supported Pixel devices (Pixel 6 series and newer). Eligible devices include:

  • Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a
  • Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a
  • Pixel Tablet, Pixel Fold
  • Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a
  • Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 9a
  • Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro Fold

Owners of these devices can enroll in the Android Beta Program to receive the OTA update. Enrolled devices will get the beta automatically and will continue to receive subsequent betas while remaining in the program.

Note: Because Android 17 is still in beta, it is not recommended for daily‑driver use. The release targets developers and enthusiasts. If you decide to install it, be sure to back up all important data first.
