Overview

After unveiling a 4K version of its Fire TV Stick Select at its hardware event last September, Amazon is launching the latest version of its HD dongle. The Fire TV Stick HD costs $35, includes Alexa+ built‑in, and offers the redesigned experience previewed at CES in January. While Amazon offers several streaming‑stick configurations, this model is the entry‑level option with meaningful upgrades.

Design and Power

  • ** slimmer profile** – About 30 % narrower than its predecessor, making it easier to fit into tight spaces or wedge behind a TV.
  • Power source – Comes with a short USB‑C cable with a USB‑A head that plugs directly into a TV’s USB port, eliminating the need for a separate wall adapter.
  • If the TV lacks a USB port, the stick can still be powered with a USB‑C cable and a standard wall adapter; any basic charger should suffice.

Connectivity and Performance

  • Wi‑Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 support.
  • Amazon claims the new stick is “more than 30 % faster on average” than the previous generation, resulting in quicker power‑on and app‑launch times.
  • The redesigned UI makes it easier to locate content.

Prime members or Alexa+ subscribers can use voice commands for show recommendations, lighting control, or to resume playback on a compatible TV in another room.

Adaptive Display Feature

Amazon announced an upcoming “Adaptive Display” setting aimed at accessibility. The feature will:

  • Scale content artwork proportionally while enlarging text and menus.
  • Offer multiple size options for a more balanced viewing experience.

Pricing and Availability

  • Price: $35 (USD).
  • Amazon recommends the 4K Max model for those willing to spend a bit more.
  • Shipping date: Begins April 29.
  • Regions: United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand, with additional regions to follow.
