Tim Cook to step down as Apple CEO

Apple CEO Tim Cook announced that he will step down from his role on September 1, transitioning to the position of executive chairman of Apple’s Board of Directors. The board approved the move unanimously, and Cook will work on transitioning his duties over the summer.

John Ternus, the current senior vice president of hardware engineering, will succeed Cook as Apple’s chief executive officer.

Cook reflected on his tenure, noting the launch of AirPods, Apple Watch, Vision Pro, Apple TV, and Apple Music, and acknowledging criticism that he lacked the product‑vision reputation of his predecessor.
