Overview

Zoom’s AI‑powered avatars, which can represent users in online meetings, will be available later this month, the company announced on Tuesday alongside a suite of new tools and services. The AI‑powered productivity apps are slated to launch as a preview in the spring.

AI Avatars

The AI avatars, first announced last year, are photorealistic digital twins that can mimic a user’s appearance, expressions, lip and eye movements. Designed to work even when users aren’t “camera‑ready,” the avatars will function in live meetings and in Zoom’s asynchronous video‑messaging product.

Zoom is also adding deep‑fake detection technology to alert participants of possible audio or video impersonation.

New AI‑Powered Office Apps

Zoom is introducing its own AI Docs, Slides, and Sheets applications. Leveraging meeting transcripts and data from other services, users can generate document drafts, spreadsheets with data, or presentation decks automatically.

AI Companion 3.0

AI Companion 3.0 is now coming to the Zoom desktop app after debuting on the web in September. Zoom reported that the AI Companion’s monthly active users more than tripled in Q4 FY 2026 year‑over‑year.

Workvivo Integration

Zoom’s AI assistant will also be added to Workvivo, its employee‑communication platform. The assistant can connect to services such as Slack, Salesforce, ServiceNow, Gmail, Outlook, Asana, and Jira, allowing users to query across multiple knowledge bases.

Competitive Landscape

Zoom is not alone in building AI‑first office software. Established players like Canva and newer startups such as Context are pursuing similar initiatives. Salesforce‑owned Slack has also been adding more AI features to its team‑communication tools.

Custom Agents

To support agentic workflows, users can now create custom agents using natural‑language prompts that operate across Zoom surfaces. After creation, agents can be mentioned in chat to perform tasks on demand.

Developer APIs

Zoom is exposing its speech, vision, and language intelligence APIs for developers, with options for on‑premises or cloud deployment.

Updated Chat Experience

The chat interface is being refreshed with AI‑driven features that surface key insights and summarize conversation threads.

Unified Design

Zoom plans to unify design across desktop, mobile, and web platforms, making AI tools such as notes, meeting questions, and transcriptions more accessible.
