Gemini for Home – What’s New
-
Room‑level targeting – Gemini now isolates commands to specific rooms, giving you finer‑grained control.

Context‑aware device handling – The model recognises a device’s type and can execute grouped actions even when devices have unique names.

Home‑address‑first routing – Gemini always uses the address set in the Google Home app for local weather, news, and area‑specific queries, ignoring other Google services or traveling members’ locations.
-
Reduced voice cut‑offs & smoother turn‑taking – “Significantly reduced” premature cut‑offs, making live conversations feel more natural.
-
More reliable daily commands – Notes, reminders, calendar events, timers, and alarms work consistently, as do voice‑triggered user‑created automations.
Image: Improved reliability -
Updated language models – Better answer quality for general questions and more reliable playback of newly released songs.
New Premium Feature: Live Search
- Who can use it? Google Home Premium (advanced) subscribers.
- What it does: Lets you ask Gemini real‑time questions about camera feeds, e.g., “Hey Google, is there a car in the driveway?”
- Why it matters: Moves from querying past events to understanding the current state of your home.

Google Home Update Changelog (March 2 , 2026)
Google Home app
New automation starters and conditions
We’re constantly improving our automation editor. This release adds support for additional starters and conditions (available only in the Google Home app via the Automation editor). They are not yet supported by Ask Home or Help me create.
- Security system is armed – e.g., “When the security system is armed…”
- Device is plugged in – e.g., “If the device is plugged in…”
- Device docked – e.g., “Send me a notification if the Pixel Tablet is not docked by 9 PM.”
- Expanded Nest × Yale Lock support (general availability, gradual rollout) – View lock history, receive notifications, check battery status, manage passcodes, schedule guest access, and change advanced settings directly from the Google Home app.
Gemini for Home voice assistant (Early Access)
Improvements to device targeting, voice reliability, and Gemini model quality:
- Home‑specific isolation – Commands like “turn off all lights” now affect only the current home.
- Room & whole‑home queries – “Turn off the kitchen” now only controls lights; unassigned devices are no longer grouped incorrectly.
- Unique‑name categorization – A device named “Table Glow” is recognized as a lamp via manufacturer metadata, so “turn on the lights” works even without the word “light.”
- Address‑based context – Gemini uses the home address set in the app for weather, local news, etc.
- Notes, lists, reminders, calendars, timers & alarms – Greater reliability and accuracy.
- Gemini model upgrades – More recent models provide higher‑quality informational answers.
- Reduced cut‑offs – Fewer premature interruptions while speaking, enabling smoother turn‑taking.
- Automation triggering – “Hey Google, Party time” more reliably launches a user‑created automation.
- Music playback – Newly released songs play more reliably.
- Live camera search (Google Home Premium, Advanced plan) – Search live camera streams for the current state of your home (previously limited to past events).
Device software
- Nest Wi‑Fi Pro – March 2026 software update – Improves security, stability, and mesh performance.
