XChat has officially launched on iPhone and iPad
As of Friday, April 24 2026, the XChat app is available on the App Store for iPhone and iPad.
Unlike the official X app, XChat adopts the iOS 26 design language and uses the iOS 26 keyboard, while the X app still runs on the iOS 18 keyboard. The app feels like a major upgrade for anyone who previously used X (formerly Twitter) for direct messages.

What does XChat actually do?
XChat lets users “chat with anyone on X in a private, focused space built for conversation,” according to its description.

- End‑to‑end encrypted messaging
- Features previewed include:
- Blocking screenshots
- Disappearing messages
- Group chats (up to 350 members, with joinable links)
- Video calls
The launch coincides with X retiring its Communities feature in favor of Groupchat Links.
