Windows Update Is Getting Automatic Rollbacks For Faulty Drivers
Source: Slashdot
Overview
Microsoft is adding a Windows Update feature called Cloud‑Initiated Driver Recovery that can automatically roll back faulty drivers to a previously known‑good version without waiting for hardware makers or users to fix the problem manually.

How it works
- Today, when a driver is faulty, the hardware partner must push an updated driver, or the end user must manually uninstall the problematic driver. This creates a gap where devices may remain on a low‑quality driver for an extended period.
- With Cloud‑Initiated Driver Recovery, Microsoft can remotely trigger a rollback of the faulty driver to a previously “known‑good” version via the Windows Update pipeline.
Microsoft says testing and verification of Cloud‑Initiated Driver Recovery will continue until August this year, with the feature expected to roll out to Windows PCs starting in September.
