Why You Shouldn't Buy the Next MacBook Pro
Source: MacRumors
Overview
Apple is planning to launch new MacBook Pro models as soon as early March, but if you can, this is one generation you should skip because there’s something much better in the works.
Upcoming Models
- Spring 2024: 14‑inch and 16‑inch MacBook Pro models with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. The design and display remain largely unchanged.
- Late 2026: First OLED MacBook Pro models are expected, featuring:
- Design refresh
- Faster M6 chips
- New OLED display technology
- Touch‑screen capability (a first for Macs)
Multiple rumors suggest touch capabilities will be available alongside traditional mouse and keyboard input, making the Mac more like an iPad. Cellular options are also rumored.
Why Skip the Current Generation
- An OLED, touch‑enabled MacBook Pro is slated for later in 2026, offering a significantly upgraded experience.
- Buying an M5 Pro or M5 Max model now may result in missing out on better options just months later.
- OLED touch displays will likely be limited to the higher‑end 14‑inch and 16‑inch models due to cost, so the entry‑level MacBook Pro may not receive these upgrades, though it could still get an M6 chip.
- Historically, Apple has refreshed the MacBook Pro line relatively quickly: M2 Pro and M2 Max launched in January 2023, followed by M3 Pro and M3 Max in October 2023.
