Overview

Waymo’s robotaxis are almost ready to launch in Nashville. The company has been testing its autonomous vehicles in the city for a while, having announced the launch in Nashville back in September 2025.

Testing without a safety driver

Waymo announced that it is now testing its robotaxis without a human safety driver, which is typically the last step before the service launches for everyone.

Launch plans

Waymo plans to initially offer rides in Nashville through its Waymo One app. The company partnered with Lyft for the launch in Nashville, and Waymo’s autonomous robotaxis should become available through Lyft’s app down the line, too.

Future expansion

Waymo plans to rapidly expand its robotaxi service throughout 2026, both in the U.S. and abroad. The Alphabet‑owned company recently secured a $16 billion financing round and announced plans to expand to more than 20 new cities in 2026.

Waymo most recently launched in Miami and was also spotted testing its service in London.
