Walmart’s new 4K Google TV stick is the Chromecast replacement I needed [Gallery]

Introduction
Walmart is rolling out a new Google TV streamer lineup. While the Pro model is intriguing, the 4K streaming stick arrived first and serves as a direct replacement for the Chromecast with Google TV (4K). The original Chromecast with Google TV launched in 2020 and held up well, but an upgraded version took a long time to appear. The Google TV Streamer addressed storage and performance issues but wasn’t a direct hardware replacement because of its larger form factor.
For a TV mounted in an office where space behind the display is limited, the larger Streamer was impractical. Previous attempts with the Onn 4K Plus and older Walmart boxes felt clunky due to the need for a full HDMI cable. The new 4K streaming stick fills that gap.
Design and Build
The “Onn 4K Streaming Device” is a compact stick reminiscent of a Roku stick. One end features an HDMI plug (with a short extender included for tight fits) and the opposite end a USB‑C port for power. A power adapter is supplied, and the device powers up in about a minute. Its low profile lets it sit directly behind a TV without the bulk of a box.

Setup and Performance
Setup uses the new flow introduced last year (details here). Despite having only 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage—specs matching the older Chromecast—the stick feels noticeably faster. For a secondary device used in an office for occasional YouTube videos or livestreams, the performance is more than adequate. The hardware is also suitable for a main living‑room streamer if paired with the Onn 4K Pro or Google TV Streamer.
Remote
The included remote follows the design Walmart has used for its devices for years and is based on one of Google’s reference designs (see reference).

Pricing and Availability
The Onn 4K streaming stick is currently priced at $39.88 for most customers, though availability may vary by region (launch details). If you’re looking for a proper Chromecast with Google TV replacement, this is the best option tested in the United States.
