Uber expands its women rider‑driver pairing program

Uber has expanded its Women Preferences feature, which pairs women riders with women drivers. The feature is now available nationwide, after being tested in several cities. It has previously been available in many countries around the globe and originally launched in Saudi Arabia in 2019.

For riders

  • When requesting a trip (or making a reservation in advance), women can select the “Women Drivers” option.
  • A preference for a female driver can also be set in the app’s settings, though this does not guarantee a match and depends on driver availability.

For drivers

  • Women drivers can request trips with women riders via the settings, using the same preference system.

Similar initiatives by Lyft

Lyft is also expanding its own version of the feature, which has recently been rolled out nationwide. The service aims to provide a comparable safety option for women riders and drivers.
