Apple may be working on two new Studio Display models
Macworld’s Filipe Espósito reported that Apple appears to be developing two new Studio Display variants with different specifications. The information comes from “internal Apple files,” likely a macOS Tahoe Kernel Debug Kit that leaked online last year.

Key rumored upgrades
- ProMotion – up to 120 Hz refresh rate with HDR support for higher brightness and dynamic range.
- Higher‑end model may include:
- Superior speakers (beyond the current six‑speaker, Spatial‑Audio system)
- More and/or higher‑spec ports – at least one Thunderbolt 5 port to handle 5K @ 120 Hz plus accessories
- Screen size – speculation that the premium version could be 32‑inch, while the entry‑level model stays at 27‑inch.
- Mini‑LED backlighting – suggested by display‑industry expert Ross Young.
- New SoC – an A19 or A19 Pro chip (up from the current A13 Bionic) for better performance and camera improvements.
Note: Another leaker claims one of the models may be capped at 90 Hz. If true, the 90 Hz figure could be a compromise to keep bandwidth within limits for 5K @ 120 Hz.
Design
- No major design changes are expected.
Timeline
Apple is reportedly targeting a first‑half‑2026 launch. The current Studio Display debuted in March 2022 alongside the first Mac Studio, so a refresh is long overdue. A recent regulatory filing for a new Apple monitor further hints that a launch is approaching.
