TL;DR
- YouTube is testing new Shorts Remix features.
- A small group of users will get access to Add object and Reimagine.
- Add object lets you insert an item into a scene, while Reimagine can take a single frame from a Short and transform it into a new video.
YouTube Shorts Remix
YouTube’s Remix tools let creators put a unique spin on Shorts by remixing audio or adding video segments from other clips on the platform. The current experiment expands this toolkit with two additional options.
Add object
- Appears in the Shorts Remix menu for a limited group of English‑only users.
- Allows you to insert items into a scene (up to 8 seconds) using suggested or custom prompts.
- The added objects link back to the original Short.
Reimagine
- Also shown in the Remix menu for the test group.
- Takes a single frame from a Short and generates an entirely new video based on suggested or custom prompts.
- The resulting video links back to the source Short.
Managing Your Content
Creators can choose to exclude their Shorts from being used with these Remix tools. Instructions are available in the Learn more about remixing content section of YouTube’s support page.
Early Sightings
A Reddit user lifeintel9 reported seeing the Reimagine tool about four days before the official announcement, sharing screenshots that demonstrate how the feature works. The discussion can be found here.
