Overview
The new version of the OM‑3 looks nearly identical to last year’s model, except for a red “Astro” badge on the front.
Just over a year after OM System launched its vintage‑styled OM‑3 Micro Four Thirds mirrorless camera, the company announced a refreshed version aimed at astrophotography.
Upgrades for Astrophotography
The OM‑3 Astro adds several hardware improvements designed to enhance the colors of red nebulae, a popular subject for astrophotographers. The most notable upgrade is a new infrared‑cut filter positioned in front of the camera’s 20.37‑megapixel stacked back‑illuminated sensor.
Availability and Pricing
- Release date: March 2026
- Price: $2,499.99 (approximately $500 more than the standard OM‑3)
Both the standard OM‑3 and the Astro version can be used to photograph the night sky, but the Astro model offers the additional enhancements described above.
