This new AMOLED display promises more natural light that’s easier on the eyes

TL;DR
- TCL is showing off its new TCL NXTPAPER AMOLED prototype at MWC 2026.
- The panel aims to improve eye‑comfort features compared with the company’s earlier LCD panels.
- Although still a prototype, TCL plans to ship a phone with the technology by the end of the year.
Background
Late last year, Android Authority’s Ryan Haines reviewed the TCL NXTPAPER 60 Ultra e‑reader, highlighting its paper‑like display mode and comparing it to the Kindle. The experience was powered by TCL’s NXTPAPER technology, which is now being extended to AMOLED panels.
NXTPAPER is TCL’s approach to making screen light feel more natural and less fatiguing over time. It is not an e‑ink panel and does not attempt to replicate one; instead, it seeks to reduce eye strain while preserving the responsiveness and vibrancy of modern smartphone displays.
MWC 2026 Preview
At MWC 2026, TCL unveiled its new NXTPAPER AMOLED technology. The company describes it as an attempt to combine the eye‑comfort focus of its NXTPAPER LCD panels with the contrast and color performance of AMOLED.

Technical Improvements
- Blue‑light reduction: TCL claims a 15 % decrease in blue‑light output at the hardware level, rather than relying on software filters.
- Circular polarization: The panel reportedly achieves 90 % circular polarization, which helps reduce glare.
- Anti‑glare coating: Marketed as the world’s first anti‑glare AMOLED panel, it uses nanomatrix lithography to cut reflections while still delivering up to 3,200 nits of peak brightness.
- Refresh rate & color gamut: The display defaults to 120 Hz, covers 100 % of the P3 wide‑color gamut, and supports variable refresh rates.
If the anti‑glare claims hold up, the panel could mitigate one of the long‑standing weaknesses of glossy AMOLED screens in bright outdoor conditions.
Outlook
The technology is currently a prototype shown privately to the press. TCL has indicated that it does not plan to license the tech to other manufacturers. Instead, the company intends to launch a TCL smartphone featuring the NXTPAPER AMOLED panel by the end of the year.
