TCL’s NXTPAPER Evolution
TCL has been producing smartphones and tablets at an impressive pace for years. While most manufacturers have focused on foldable display technology—and TCL has experimented with it—the company’s primary emphasis has been on its NXTPAPER screens. Marketed as eye‑friendly and positioned between e‑ink slates and traditional tablets, NXTPAPER has been continuously upgraded, culminating at CES 2026 with the Note A1 NXTPAPER and the NXTPAPER 70 Pro smartphone.
AMOLED NXTPAPER Announcement
At MWC, just a few months after CES, TCL revealed plans for a major leap forward: AMOLED NXTPAPER displays. The new technology aims to merge the eye‑comfort benefits of current NXTPAPER panels with the high visual performance of AMOLED. Achieving this required a fundamental redesign of the display architecture and is intended to resolve the main drawbacks of the LCD‑based NXTPAPER—limited brightness, subpar outdoor visibility, and muted colors.

Technical Specs
- Peak brightness: up to 3,200 nits (compared with the 70 Pro’s 900 nits)
- Refresh rate: 120 Hz
- Color gamut: 100 % coverage
- Blue‑light reduction: as low as 2.9 %, roughly 15 % less than existing NXTPAPER displays
The anti‑glare effect demonstrated on the show floor appeared premium, surpassing typical third‑party anti‑glare protective films.
Future Plans
TCL has not yet announced a specific device featuring the AMOLED NXTPAPER panel, but it plans to launch a smartphone equipped with this technology before the end of the year.
