Recall Summary

  • Casely and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalled the model E33A MagSafe power bank in April 2025.
  • The recall is being re‑announced after 28 new reports of overheating or fire incidents in the past year.
  • At least one fatality has been linked to burns caused by the faulty chargers.

Background

Think about how many products you use that could cause injury if they malfunction. It’s common to hear about new power‑bank recalls due to the risk of fire. This week the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is sounding the alarm again for a product that was already recalled last year but continues to harm—and even kill—its users.

High‑energy‑density lithium‑ion batteries, which power most rechargeable electronics, are prone to thermal runaway: even minor damage or excess heat can trigger a fire that’s hard to stop. When manufacturers identify a problem that adds even more risk, they must act quickly—much like Samsung did with the Note 7 debacle.

One year ago, Casely announced a recall of its model E33A, a 5,000 mAh MagSafe battery bank. At that time, six confirmed reports described users suffering minor burns from overheating or fire. Ideally, shoppers would learn of the recall, contact Casely for a replacement, and safely dispose of the risky product. While some did, incidents have continued.

Since the original recall, the CPSC has received 28 additional reports of overheating or fire, including the first fatality linked to the charger. The death stems from a 2024 incident that predates the recall; it’s unclear whether the report was recent or the victim’s injuries proved fatal only within the past year.

These incidents are still occurring. The CPSC highlighted a case from February of this year when a Casely charger exploded on an airplane, causing first‑degree burns. The confined environment could have made the outcome far worse.

How to Avoid Becoming a Statistic Yourself

If you own a Casely charger, stop using it immediately. Verify whether it is the affected model E33A and, if so, follow Casely’s recall instructions for next steps.

Do not assume product recalls are overly cautious; they exist to protect your safety. Your life isn’t worth the risk.
