Recall Summary

Casely has reannounced a recall of its Power Pods 5,000 mAh MagSafe E33A charger after dozens of people were injured and one person was killed by the defective devices, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Users are advised to stop using the devices immediately, dispose of them safely, and seek a replacement from the manufacturer.

A year ago, Casely and the CPSC recalled 429,000 units of the power bank (model E33A) following 51 incidents of overheating, expansion, or fire that resulted in burns to users.

Reported Incidents

  • August 2024 – A 75‑year‑old woman in New Jersey was charging her cell phone with the power bank on her lap when it caught fire and exploded. She suffered second‑ and third‑degree burns and later died from complications.
  • 2024 (later incident) – A 47‑year‑old woman was charging her phone on a plane when the power bank caught fire and exploded, causing first‑degree burns.

These incidents prompted the recall to be reissued due to “a risk of serious injury or death from fire and burn hazards to consumers.”

Identification

The defective Casely Power Pods 5,000 mAh charger can be identified by:

  • The Casely embossed logo on the front
  • Model number E33A on the back

It was sold through various online retailers, including getcasely.com and Amazon, between 2022 and 2024.

Remedy and Disposal

  • Replacement: Casely is offering free replacement units (it is unclear whether a full refund is available).
  • Claim process: Write “recalled” on the battery pack with a permanent marker and submit a photo of the marked pack along with a second photo showing the E33A model number.
  • Disposal: Contact a facility that handles lithium‑ion batteries. Do not discard the units with regular household waste, recycling, or standard battery disposal bins due to fire and explosion risks.
