TL;DR

  • The vivo X300 Ultra is expected to retain a large 14 mm ultrawide sensor (Sony LYT‑818), the same used in the X200 Ultra, instead of moving to the newer Sony LYT‑828.
  • This sensor is big enough to rival many smartphones’ main cameras, delivering cleaner low‑light shots and better dynamic range.
  • The ultrawide camera is tipped to feature 50 MP resolution.

Ultrawide Camera

Vivo’s upcoming Ultra flagship, the X300 Ultra, is shaping up to be anything but subtle. A recent Weibo post from product manager Han Boxiao confirms that the device will keep its 14 mm ultrawide camera equipped with a large Sony LYT‑818 sensor, following the approach used in last year’s X200 Ultra. Rather than switching to the newer Sony LYT‑828, Vivo appears to be sticking with the sensor that performed well in the previous model.

The X200 Ultra’s ultrawide sensor is so large that it often rivals—or even surpasses—the main cameras found in many smartphones. Larger sensors capture more light, which typically leads to:

  • Cleaner low‑light shots
  • Better dynamic range
  • More natural depth

On most phones, ultrawide images tend to look softer or noisier than photos from the main camera. Vivo’s approach aims to narrow that gap.

ZEISS Camera System

The ultrawide lens is just one component of Vivo’s ZEISS camera system. According to Boxiao, the X300 Ultra will feature a stacked lineup that includes:

  • 200 MP main camera with a 35 mm focal length
  • 200 MP periscope telephoto camera

Vivo continues its partnership with ZEISS, which contributes to lens design and optical tuning across the system.

Optional Zeiss Telephoto Extender

Vivo has also revealed an optional Zeiss Telephoto Extender accessory. When attached, it can boost the phone’s optical zoom to a 400 mm equivalent, and digital cropping can extend the reach even further.

Expected Release

The X300 Ultra is slated to debut in 2026, meaning we won’t have to wait long to see whether Vivo’s bold camera strategy pays off.
