Steam Controller Launch & Basegrip

Valve’s new Steam Controller goes on sale on Monday for $99, and accessories‑maker Mechanism will have its new Basegrip ready at the same time. The Basegrip is the first accessory that lets you snap a Steam Controller onto your phone, and it’s part of Mechanism’s broader lineup of mounts—including options for hanging handhelds and gamepads on the Ikea Skadis pegboard or just about anywhere else.

Basegrip and Phone Mount

When paired with Mechanism’s phone mount, the Basegrip allows you to use the Steam Controller as a remote for your PC via the Steam Link streaming app.

Note: The controller doesn’t work across all iOS or Android devices yet. In testing on iOS, there were some issues, though the Steam Link iOS app did work for basic gameplay.

Steam Controller Dock

Mechanism is also opening a waitlist for a Steam Controller dock that holds the controller at an angle. The dock is designed to:

  • Provide a stable, weighted stand for the controller
  • Display, charge, and connect the Steam Controller (the charging puck attaches magnetically)

The dock is slated to launch in June 2026.

3D‑Print Files

Continuing its tradition of offering free, community‑driven designs, Mechanism is releasing printable files for:

  • The Basegrip
  • A “stripped‑down” version of the dock

These files let anyone with a 3D printer create their own accessories.

Valve’s Past Use of Mechanism Mounts

Valve previously used dozens of Mechanism’s mounts—then called Deckmate—to build the Steam Deck‑filled orb featured in the company’s lobby. The same orb was recently photographed by Hideo Kojima in a selfie.
