There's already a way to mount your smartphone to a Steam Controller

Overview
Mechanism, the company behind a “gaming pillow” for the Steam Deck and a growing list of grips for handheld consoles and PCs, has released its first Steam Controller accessory. Valve’s new controller will be available to purchase on May 4, and on the same day Mechanism will start selling the Basegrip for Steam Controller, an accessory that lets you attach the controller to a smartphone and to many other mounts the company already offers.
Basegrip Features
- Contoured to fit snugly over the back of the Steam Controller while leaving room for its magnetic charging puck.
- Designed to work with Mechanism’s existing mounts, including a phone mount that magnetically attaches a smartphone to the top of the controller.
- When paired, the phone and controller create a makeshift handheld console for playing games.
Compatibility
Valve has stated that the Steam Controller is intended to work only with Steam and the Steam Link app. Consequently, the controller does not work across all of iOS or Android yet. You can use a smartphone, the Steam Controller, and the Steam Link app to stream PC games, but functionality may be limited. Future software updates could improve support, but current usefulness with a smartphone is modest.
Pricing and Availability
- Basegrip for Steam Controller: $9 (discounted pricing available when bundled with other accessories).
- Steam Controller Dock: Price not finalized; expected to ship in June. A waitlist is available for pre‑orders.
These accessories complement Mechanism’s broader lineup, offering additional ways to mount and charge the Steam Controller.
