Today’s update adds four metrics that will help athletes understand intensity, pacing, and efficiency across power‑based training sessions. Here are the details.

Even more insight for high‑performance athletes

Earlier this year, The Outsiders introduced Personal Training Goals, letting users set workout targets based on time, distance, training load, active energy, or elevation.

Shortly after, Gentler Stories expanded the feature based on user feedback, adding support for goals tied to a specific number of sessions or time spent in Training Focus, Heart Rate, and Cycling Power zones.

Personal training goals, added at the beginning of the year, give athletes a clear, trackable target to work toward—be it cycling miles, running time, energy burned in the gym, and more. An update shortly after also brought customization options to the Today and Progress tabs, so you can personalize the user experience to your liking.

Today, The Outsiders received another update that gives high‑performance athletes deeper insight into the metrics that matter most to them.

Version 1.6, rolling out now on the App Store (link), introduces four new metrics “that work together to give the full scope of a session – not just how hard you went, but how well you executed it”:

  • Relative Intensity – tells you how demanding the session was relative to your personal limit (cycling only).
  • Variability Index – shows how you paced the effort and if it was in sync with your goal.
  • Efficiency Factor – indicates power output relative to heart rate. A rising trend means your aerobic engine is getting stronger.
  • Aerobic Decoupling – shows how well you held that efficiency over the full session.

Gentler Stories says that “these metrics are available for rides and runs with power data, you can find them in the session summary,” adding that “advanced metrics are part of Outsiders Absolute,” their subscription plan that offers monthly, yearly, and lifetime options.
