Naming

One rumor claims Apple will call its foldable iPhone the iPhone Ultra, which doesn’t seem out of the question. We’ve been referring to it as the iPhone Fold during the rumor cycle, but it’s unlikely Apple will actually use that name.

  • CarPlay that more deeply integrates with in‑car systems.
  • Given the $2,000+ pricing of the foldable iPhone, “Ultra” could make sense.

Design

We’ve heard plenty of rumors about the iPhone Fold’s design, and the first alleged dummy models appeared this week. While it’s unclear if these reflect the final design, they incorporate many of the rumored features and appropriate sizing.

  • Aspect ratio: A wider 4:3 aspect ratio similar to the iPad mini, setting it apart from other foldable smartphones, which are typically taller.
  • Authentication: Touch ID instead of Face ID.

Release Timing

Rumors about the launch date have been contradictory:

  • Some suggest a delay past September due to late‑stage production issues.
  • Others predict a September launch, possibly alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, or later in the year (as late as December).

Nikkei reported that Apple might push the iPhone Fold to 2027 because of numerous issues, but Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman called that report “off base.” Gurman believes the device will be available “around the same time” or “soon after” the iPhone 18 Pro models.

Ming‑Chi Kuo warned that production challenges could cause supply shortages extending into 2027.

Pricing

According to Gurman, Apple’s foldable iPhone will “cross the $2,000 threshold.” It’s unclear whether $2,000 will be the base price or if higher‑end configurations will exceed that amount. Some estimates place the starting price around $2,000, with outliers suggesting up to $2,300.
