Pricing
Tesla has lowered the price of its entry‑level Model 3 in Canada. The Model 3 Premium Rear‑Wheel Drive (RWD) now starts at $39,490 CAD (≈ $29,000 USD), roughly half of the previous entry‑level price of $79,990 CAD (≈ $59,000 USD).
At the higher end, the Model 3 Performance price was reduced from $89,000 CAD to $74,990 CAD (≈ $55,000 USD).
Tariff changes and supply chain
Previously, Canadian buyers could purchase Model 3s built at Tesla’s Shanghai factory, but Canada imposed a 100 % tariff on Chinese‑made EVs. Tesla responded by shipping vehicles from its Fremont, California plant, while a 25 % retaliatory tariff on U.S.‑made cars kept the entry‑level price at $79,990 CAD.
The latest shift comes as Canada cut tariffs on Chinese‑made EVs to 6.1 % (MotorTrend), allowing Tesla to resume importing Model 3s from the Giga Shanghai factory at more competitive prices.
Incentives
The Model 3 Premium RWD is not covered by Canada’s new Electric Vehicle Affordability Program, which offers up to a $5,000 CAD incentive for eligible vehicles. Although the program recently went into effect, the newest Model 3 does not qualify because it is not manufactured in Canada.
