Apple CarPlay compatibility for Tesla EVs has been pushed back due to a hitch with iOS 26, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. In the latest Power On newsletter, Gurman said Tesla’s plans to adopt CarPlay have been delayed because of app compatibility issues and low adoption rates for iOS 26.

Compatibility Issues

• Tesla’s in‑house navigation software, which supports the company’s self‑driving features, has encountered compatibility problems with Apple Maps.
• Apple released an iOS 26 update intended to better synchronize the two navigation apps, especially when a driver uses Tesla’s autonomous driving options.

iOS 26 Adoption

• Tesla is reportedly concerned about the low adoption rates of iOS 26, which has contributed to the decision to delay CarPlay rollout.
• Gurman noted that iOS 26 adoption rates were lower than usual but are rising, citing Apple’s latest figures that 74 % of all iPhones released in the last four years are running iOS 26.

• There is still no official date for when CarPlay will arrive in Teslas.
• Adding the popular in‑car feature could help boost Tesla’s sales, which have slipped for the fourth month in a row according to January registration estimates in the US.
